The Kenya National Union of Teachers has elected Collins Oyuu as the Secretary General just a day after his only opponent Wilson Sossion resigned from the position and recalled his candidature.

The new Secretary General has taken over KNUT at a critical time as he has to deal with the union’s drop in membership from 200,000 plus to a mere 15,000. He also revealed that the union’s branch secretaries have not been paid for nearly two years.

“Teachers have really waited for this day to have new leaders especially at the top. The union is crippled financially.” He remarked. There is a lot of hope as Mr. Oyuu plans to collaborate with TSC and the government to resuscitate the union.
